VOLUNTEER POSITIONS ARE AVAILABLE
AT 26TH ANNUAL BANK OF AMERICA CHAMPIONSHIP
Mar. 3, 2006:
CONCORD, Mass - The twenty-sixth annual
Bank of America Championship, which takes place at Nashawtuc Country
Club in Concord June 5-11, has volunteer positions open on several
committees, including the merchandise tent, corporate partner services,
marshals and transportation. Each year, nearly 1,500 golf fans help
staff the Bank of America Championship, giving the tournament the
opportunity to make the most of its local charitable donations.
The Bank of America Championship is the only place in New England where
golf fans can enjoy the highly competitive spirit and fan friendly
environment of Champions Tour golf. Early player commitments to this
year's tournament include defending champion Mark McNulty, 2005
Champions Tour Player of the Year Dana Quigley and 2003 Bank of America
Championship winner Allen Doyle. Other top players expected to compete
include Tom Kite, Gary McCord, Larry Nelson, Tom Purtzer, Curtis
Strange, Craig Stadler and Lee Trevino.
Major league baseball also joins this year's Bank of America
Championship. Swing with the Legends, a tournament within a tournament,
will showcase 12 of baseball's greatest legends competing alongside the
Champions Tour pro golfers.
Bank of America Championship volunteers have an unparalleled opportunity
to get inside the game and up close to top professional golfers and are
the tournament's champions for charitable giving, according to
tournament director Tracy West, helping it to donate more than $4
million to local charities in the past 25 years. No special experience
is necessary to be a Bank of America Championship volunteer, only a love
of golf. Regarding the volunteer areas that presently have the greatest
number of openings:
- Merchandise volunteers sell the hottest new golf wear and fun souvenirs while managing sales at the merchandise tents during tournament week. Morning and afternoon shifts, Monday-Sunday of tournament week, as well as some shifts prior to tournament week, are available.
- Corporate Partner Services provides hospitality and concierge services for corporate tent and skybox sponsors. Potential volunteers may specify the Hospitality Pavilion or corporate tents. Morning and afternoon shifts, Wednesday-Sunday of tournament week, are available.
- Marshals are responsible for security on holes, crowd control, noise control and other factors related to proper behavior on the golf course. Potential marshals may choose only one hole for all their volunteer shifts, which require standing for long periods of time. Morning and afternoon shifts during Wednesday and Thursday Pro-Ams are available. Championship rounds on Friday, Saturday and Sunday each count as one shift.
- Transportation volunteers provide airport pick-up and drop-off for Champions Tour players and officials and other transportation services as needed during tournament week. Positions include greeters and drivers. Driving to Logan International Airport is not required. Morning and afternoon shifts from June 1 through June 15 are available.
In addition to the opportunity to get inside the game, volunteers receive a golf shirt and outerwear clothing or second shirt, baseball cap, visor or bucket hat, volunteer parking pass, volunteer badge good for admission throughout tournament week, lunch vouchers on work days, volunteer party, five extra good-any-one-day tickets and subscription to GOLF MAGAZINE. The total retail value of this package is more than $330, but the cost to a volunteer is $60, which helps defray the costs of the uniforms and represents a major contribution to tournament charities.
