Nashawtuc Charities To Seek New Title Sponsor
Following ’08 Champions Tour Event
For Immediate Release, November 20, 2007:
CONCORD, Mass – Bank of America Championship officials today announced that Bank of America has decided not to renew its title sponsorship of the PGA TOUR Champions Tour event following the 2008 tournament. The bank explained the decision not to extend the title sponsorship reflected changing priorities in its overall sponsorship and marketing strategies but has indicated they will remain involved with the tournament.
“2008 will be our 16th year with Bank of America as a title sponsor and they have been a valuable partner,” said Tournament Director Tracy West. “It’s unusual for sports sponsorships to last so long, and the longevity and depth of Bank of America’s involvement says a lot about the strength of our tournament. We are determined to make the 2008 tournament the best ever and continue our charitable heritage that helps to support dozens of community organizations.” West added, “The Champions Tour is as strong as it’s ever been, and we will be working with the PGA TOUR to secure a new title sponsor.”
“For the past 15 years, the Bank of America Championship has been an outstanding event for both our company and the Greater Boston community,” said Robert Gallery, president of Bank of America Massachusetts. “Although our title sponsorship will come to an end after next year, we are currently working with Nashawtuc Charities to determine how best we can continue to support this prestigious event with a meaningful commitment.
“Bank of America sincerely thanks Nashawtuc Country Club, tournament staff, corporate partners and community volunteers whose hard work and dedication consistently makes this tournament a success for everyone involved,” Gallery added.
The Bank of America Championship, which began in 1981 and has been played at Nashawtuc Country Club since 1984, is the only PGA TOUR Champions Tour tournament in New England and the oldest 54-hole event on the Champions Tour, which is a Tour for the world’s leading golfers age 50 and older. The tournament is owned by Nashawtuc Charities, Inc., and operated by Hayson Sports Group. Through Nashawtuc Charities, the tournament has donated more than $4.8 million over the past 27 years to more than 40 charitable organizations in eastern Massachusetts, with a focus on those in the Assabet Valley region.
The twenty-eighth annual Bank of America Championship will take place at Nashawtuc Country Club on June 16-22, 2008.
