ARNOLD PALMER COMMITS TO PLAY
IN 25TH ANNIVERSARY BANK OF AMERICA CHAMPIONSHIP
June 14, 2005
CONCORD, Mass - Arnold Palmer committed today to playing in the twenty-fifth anniversary Bank of America Championship, June 20-26, Nashawtuc Country Club, Concord.
Palmer's legendary status in the game has been achieved through his 92 career victories, including eight majors and the 1982 Bank of America Championship and through "his personality that is even bigger than his playing accomplishments," according to tournament director Tracy West.
Gil Morgan also committed today to the Bank of America Championship field, raising the number of top 50 Champions Tour 2005 money winners in the tournament's field to 41. The tournament's field also includes all but one of the winners of Champions Tour's official money events so far this year.
Craig Stadler will defend his Bank of America Championship title against top popular players like Hale Irwin, Dana Quigley, Jim Thorpe, D.A. Weibring, Mike Reid, Ben Crenshaw, Allen Doyle, Bruce Fleisher, Gary McCord, Larry Nelson, Gary Player and Lanny Wadkins in a total field of 78 players.
The twenty-fifth anniversary Bank of America Championship tournament week activities will commemorate the tournament’s charitable contributions, $3.7 million in 24 years, local economic impact, $280 million in 24 years, and milestones in Champions Tour golf, like Arnold Palmer's two eagles in the second round of the 2002 tournament, one of which was a 40-yard chip on the tenth hole, and Hale Irwin's 50-foot, triple-breaking putt from the back of the seventeenth green in the 1997 tournament that set up the first of his two consecutive Bank of America Championship wins.
On Saturday, June 25, military color guards will salute past tournament champions, a video presentation will feature the tournament's history, the new Concord Minuteman Bank of America Championship trophy will be unveiled and all active duty military, guard and reserve will receive free grounds admission to the tournament that day.
