Bank of America Championship Makes Largest Charity Donation in Tournament's History

January 31, 2005

CONCORD, Mass. - The Champions Tour Bank of America Championship has made the largest annual donation to local charities in the tournament's 24-year history.

This year's $350,000 total donation exceeded last year's $270,000 donation by $80,000 and brought the tournament's 24-year total to nearly $3.8 million, according to Chad Gifford, chairman, Bank of America, and Walter Lankau, president, Nashawtuc Charities, Inc.

The Champions Tour's Players Wives Association additionally donated in the name of the Bank of America Championship $20,000 to The Second Step, a local organization that helps women and their children break the cycle of domestic violence. Local charities, therefore, realized $380,000 in donations as a result of the 2004 Bank of America Championship.

Gifford said the local charitable commitment has been one of the primary reasons that the Bank of America has been so pleased to support the event over the years. "The Champions Tour likes to say it's all about ‘giving back' to our communities. We wholeheartedly agree and are proud of this year's contribution, the largest annual donation in the tournament's history," said Gifford.

Lankau thanked all the fans, sponsors and especially the volunteers who make the tournament successful. "We're proud of our 1,500-plus volunteers not only for their hard work and long hours, but also for the way they help make the difference when it comes to supporting local charities," he said.

Local charitable organizations receiving donations from the 2004 Bank of America Championship include the Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston and Assabet Valley, Emerson Hospital, The First Tee of Massachusetts, The Cam Neely Foundation for Cancer Care, Concord-Carlisle Boosters, Hanscom Air Force Base-Project Concern and many others.

The 25th anniversary Bank of America Championship takes place June 20-26, 2005, at Nashawtuc Country Club in Concord. For information, visit www.bankofamericachampionship.com, and for tickets, call toll-free 1-877-559-GOLF.
